A story is told of a couple who were getting married and were requested by their reverend to dedicate each a Bible verse to one another. The groom was not a frequent Bible reader so he decided to ask his friends for help.
His friends were glad to assist and they suggested he quote 1 John 4:18 which says ” There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.(KJV)
So at the altar the groom said his vows and while dedicating his verse to the bride he assumed there wasn’t such a book as 1 John so he dedicated John 4:18 instead, which says “For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that sadist thou truly.(KJV)
Moral of the story:
- Study your Bible.
- Always seek to clarify for yourself all information given to you by others.
- Never assume you know best than others.
