The Fiery Furnace
There are days I come upon a Bible verse and it just leaves me stunned, at a loss for words literally! The chosen men & women of God and the prophets in the Old Testament had so much faith that knew who they believed in. They did not waver or fear in their utterances of their love for God, they had immersed themselves wholly into the will of God.
I am also coming to learn that God upholds and rewards such attitudes. There’s one pastor I listen to who always says, “The Bible was written for our learning, so that we know that if God gave victory to His people in those days, He will surely do it for us.”
But if only we believe. Matthew 21:22 “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (NIV)
I was reading the book of Daniel 3, the account of the four men in the furnace and I am still stunned at how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego responded to the King – with the kind of boldness of which you know who you are in Christ; who God is in your life that nothing can shake or move you.
Daniel 3:13 “Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king,
Daniel 3:14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up?
Daniel 3:15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?
Now this is my highlight
Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.
Daniel 3:17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king.
Wait for it
Daniel 3:18 But even if He does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (NIV)
I don’t know about any of you, but I am certainly going to work towards attaining this kind of faith, where I believe that even if He doesn’t save me from the fire, I will still remain faithful to Him.
