Matthew 10:16

False Prophets & Teachings

Soooooooo! Happy July 2020 friends 🙂

I am really blessed to see yet another month and totally amazed at how time has passed by since the lockdown measures were put in place throughout all different places in the world.

People have kept themselves busy with various activities during this period: learning several skills, attending online lessons, pursuing self-discovery and etcetera. Needless to say, it has been a numbing time for other people, especially those whose families have been greatly affected and effected by the corona virus.

Not being left behind, it has not been a wasted time on my part as well. I believe I have discovered many things about my character and writing and also acquired habits that I would not have otherwise recognized capable of acquiring were it not for being cooped up at home.

1st July was such an eye opening day for me because I paused for the whole day and reflected about the year and my writing. If I am honest, I am taking long periods to write because I end up wondering if I am too harsh on my articles, if I come off as judgemental, arrogant, know-it-all— basically over thinking which is also not a good thing.

My articles, do carry weighty truths in them but when I think of how lost I was in religious systems, I cannot help but speak the truth and pray to deliver it with as much love as possible.

So today, we are discussing false prophets, false teachings and basically anything that man is peddling to others and is not of God and from God.

When Jesus became the top most priority of my life (about the time I knew He truly existed), I desired to know more about Him so deeply that I remember watching all available online preaching. However, I made this mistake— I assumed that all the preachers were speaking in truth and speaking for God.

I was still not able to discern which was a false gospel and which was the true gospel. So it is inevitable you will find some of my early writings as give-aways of this confusion because they spoke about “what God can do for you if you just have enough faith, if you declare and claim it everyday, if you are specific in prayer, if you are a dedicated person in prayer and etcetera— basically: works.”

I nearly exhausted myself following these teachings thinking I could manipulate God with declarations and affirmations. However, with time when you listen to diverse teachings the Holy Spirit guides you to the truth and full knowledge of the cross.

Majority of the preaching we have today is the ‘what God can do for you, what you can do for God kind of gospel.’

So, let us find out what is the true gospel so that we can differentiate between the false and counterfeit gospel.

The true gospel is,

The work is already finished.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

God has already done for us what we could not do for ourselves and there is nothing more to do/accomplish other than to do His will.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent. And this is the will of Him that sent me, that every one which sees the Son, and believes on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6: 28, 29, 40

Notice? They asked, what works might we do?

Jesus answers,

Believe on Him whom He has sent and do the will of Him that has sent the Son

Believe & Do the will of God

The will of God is not what He can do for us or what we should do for God. But what He can accomplish and do through us by our faith in Christ. How by our availability to Him, We can be a channel through which His name may be glorified and through which men may be brought to Christ.

When Jesus began His ministry, He told His disciples that He came to do the will of His Father.

Mathew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

In recognizing how wicked our hearts and ways are, we must turn to Jesus with contrite hearts, in repentance and hang on to Him for dear life. For His is the only name given under heaven whereby we must be saved.

Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved

Then and only then, can God accomplish His work through us.

For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure—Philippians 2:13

For we all deserve God’s judgement but because of His love and grace, He has justified us and made us righteous through Christ.

Notice, now we have the righteousness of Christ and God no longer looks at us as sinners but His beloved. Therefore, we are all equal before God for no man can stand before Him and declare He made it to heaven by how much he prayed, preached about Jesus, fed the poor, gave tithes and any other works.

For we have been justified only by the grace of God and not of our own merit so that we cannot boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast

With this, we can therefore approach God with boldness not on the basis on the good we have done but on the merit of His grace.

And this is the true gospel

Man however, on his attempt to further add on to the finished work of the cross has created a stumbling block for so many people.

False teachings and prosperity gospel have sprung up and tried to push back the light which Christ brought.

It is not easy to spot false teachings, well, other than the ones we know are down right ridiculous, like demanding for money in exchange for answered prayers/removal of generational curses— but even those, many have fallen prey as well.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves— Matthew 7:15

There are other dangerous ones whose teachings sound innocent, accurate, instructive and even have large congregations following them. Such kind are highly deceptive because the world is entirely convinced of the Lord’s hand upon their ministries but inwardly, they are ravening wolves, deceptive, and untrue.

These are those who come up with newly found truths and teach these truths as the word of God.

These are those who make light of sin and comfort people in their sin. They only tell people of God’s love and mercy but willfully fail to emphasize on God’s wrath and judgement with equal measure.

These are those who preach many ways/all religions lead to God leading many astray.

These are those who tell people how God desires to prosper them and give them better lives. But in reality, the life of following Christ on earth is a cross-bearing one. (Prosperity given by God must never be attributed to man but only to God and for the glory of God.)

These are the ones who deceive people with gimmicks of prophecies, prayers, cleansing, in exchange for indulgences and some few bucks.

These are those who pervert the word of God by twisting His word and using it out of context.

These are those who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. Who seem religious on the outside but are seducers, pretenders and deceivers like the pharisees of old.

These are they who teach that the Bible is not trustworthy as the word of God and come up with their own supposed revelations and teachings.

Howbeit, that God has changed? If we truly believe that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever, how then can He change with the seasons or times? Or how can He now be more tolerant with some sin and intolerant with others like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah? Doesn’t this therefore make Him out to be confused or even worse a liar?

2 Peter 2

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;
5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people , a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;
6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;
7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked
8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—
9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,
11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.
12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,
13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,
14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.

What a fearful thing it is, to be a man who leads the sheep of God astray, who comforts and encourages them in their sin. For judgement is an assured thing, just like in the days of Noah, God must judge sin.

Therefore, since many people do not even know they could be listening to false teachings/followed false religions all their lives, let each man pray to God for discernment and for truth. For we know that God is no respecter of persons, for if a man in His heart is willing to know the truth, the Lord will reveal it.

John wrote: 1 John 4,

¹Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God: he that knoweth God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

It would be a terrible fate to live a life convinced of knowing and believing a false truth and even to roll the dice on eternity only to find out the true fate on the day of judgement.

The amazing thing about salvation, is that, you can be sure you are saved. Yes you can be sure! For God’s sheep know Him, they hear His voice and follow Him.

Peter said,

2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.

(Read the whole chapter for better understanding of the context)

So to conclude,

Believing in Jesus as well does not mean verbal believe. But a heart, mind, soul and body commitment. It is an active participation on what Christ taught, and one certain thing you are assured to experience is the bearing of a cross. However, Jesus is always there with you for He said, come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. —Matthew 11:28-29

I am with you always, even unto the end of the world— Matthew 28: 20

Let us not be deceived by false prophets and teachings but ask the Lord to lead us to His truth, for His truth does not heap heavy yokes upon our shoulders.

Jesusyoke is easy, and His burden is light.
