Dear Christian
There are days that I literally stare at the blank cursor not knowing what to say, yet I come here having resolved that I have to say something. Not because it is a must, but because I am just compelled to share with you the most beautiful treasure that I carry in my heart.
There was a time I thought to incorporate and discuss ‘new age/woke’ kind of articles on my blog. Then God just impressed on my heart one important thing. The first thing that Jesus did when He began His ministry, was to call for repentance and proclaim that the kingdom of God was at hand. And this settled it. In as much as I desire to diversify my writing and venture into other topics as I had previously done on my blog, I am reminded the words Jesus spoke to His disciples saying, “My food,” Jesus said, is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work. John 4:34
And so is the will of God for my life, to share and proclaim to others what He has done in my life and spread the most important message that ever came into this world.
That Jesus Christ came into this world, lived a sinless life, and was nailed to a cross where He died.
On the third day, He rose again, and today,
He lives.
And not only does He live, but through His death and resurrection, He gives eternal life to all who place their faith and trust in Him.
When I turn on the television to the news channels these days, it is becoming dreadfully too much to bear. When I flip over to other channels, more of the same thing, only, packaged as entertainment. The cloud of evil and darkness that is enveloping us with each passing day is just something else. And I wouldn’t want you to think that we, dear Christians, are better than the evildoers.
In Paul’s letter to Titus, He asks Titus to remind the believers to do what is good because…
Titus 3
3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Our hearts are still susceptible to the same kind of evil even now just as they were in the past. Only by the grace of God and the light of the Holy Spirit within us, do we have the power to overcome.
So my dear christian, it is my prayer that as a follower of Jesus, wherever you are, you light this world in the most extra-ordinary way. It is my prayer that you are the salt of the earth, just as Jesus called you.
Matthew 5
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
You know, one of the uses of salt in the olden days, was to preserve food. It is interesting that Jesus used salt, of all the minerals available to describe the christian; and I believe this is because He knew that we are living in a world that is about to perish soon; but as the salt of the earth, we are the ones who preserve this earth, holding back the wrath of God from the destruction to come since His Holy Spirit dwells in us.
Dear Christian, as I write these words to you, I ask you to look around and observe. Jesus said, “Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
Observe around you and see how comfortable sin has become around us today. Observe and see the slander, the jealousy, the hatred, the profanity, the sexual immorality, the blasphemy, the power hungry politics, the dark world we live in in these present times.
Just take a long look around you and tell me if you do not see a world that needs the light that Jesus offers. And I am not telling you to judge the world; far from it. Even Jesus Himself said, He did not come to condemn the world.
Dear Christian, the light we carry with us for Christ is the most precious treasure on this earth and it is the only hope for this world. That is why it is paramount that we live in a way that would not cause the enemies of God to blaspheme and mock Him.
Hey! I know that it is not easy to live out the values Jesus told us to live out in the midst of a society where being woke and pop culture is the drift, where pre-marital sex is considered normal and neoteric, where clubbing, partying and turn-ups are a paradigm, where most of our time is spent consuming the social media lies paraded by the prince of the power of the air. I too, get disheartened at times to keep going.
Most days I want to take off to a cottage somewhere in Nanyuki and escape this averse environment. But it was not Jesus’ desire that we remove ourselves from the world; but that we be distinct, we be separate from the world. Yes, people will laugh, talk about you, mock, and even consider you a crazy fanatic but that shouldn’t bother you. Consider your actions, your love, and your true faith as the thing that brings to conscious their evil conversations and manner of life.
Matthew 5
11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
And so dear Christian, it is my prayer that you are not afraid to live out your faith in a world that is hellbent on living devoid of God’s laws and prefers to move with the culture. That you are bold to stand up for Jesus even in the midst of the pressure to compromise. Jesus told us to use the one weapon that would bring even our enemies to silence. Love.
Dear Christian, It is my prayer that when you step out into the world, yes even if you are shaking and trembling, that you have the courage to love people in the most unbelievable way, that you encourage those who are hopeless and that you share the love of Jesus with all men.
Love does not come easy to us human beings because most times the love we give to others is usually based on past experiences and is mostly extended towards those who love us back.
Only God, can grant us this kind of love for all men. Especially for them who are most hard to love, those whose hearts have been wounded in the most tragic ways, and those who carry bitterness and anger.
Dear Christian, this prayer is not just for you, but for me too. I am writing to encourage both of us, because I tend to forget sometimes, but sharing God’s love helps to bring things back into His perspective in the midst of a hardened world.
Jesus is coming back soon to take us home to be with Him forever. And this is such a joyful hope that I look forward to whenever I step out and observe the beautiful blue skies. I think of the verse,
1 Thessalonians 4
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Dear Christian, there is truly much work to be done and it is my hope that you allow God to use you to accomplish His work in whatever way.
May your light shine so bright for the world to see nothing but the love of Jesus.
