Let's Get Naked

Sex, Sexuality, Marriage, Divorce, Baggage… and Stuff

Well, well friends! It is that time of the year when we discuss these matters once again on this blog.

Luckily for me this year, I am taking a detour.

Rather than sharing one blog post as I am accustomed to doing each year, I have something waaaaaay better to share with you this year.

And I promise— you will not be disappointed!

They are a series of nine sermons by a pastor called Tim Ross of Embassy City Church that are worth forgoing your Netflix and chill for a hot minute. Foreal!

And before you bail out right here, I will have you know: they are not one of those ‘preachy’ messages that you would probably regard to be annoyingly in your face.

They are a breath of fresh air.

I’ll share the links to the amazing, amazing series below. A very good friend of mine shared them with me also around the end of last year and I found them to be such a blessing to my life.

What I most especially loved about the whole series was that: they were conversations on sensitive topics which were raw, honest, deep and really vulnerable. The kind of things I look for in any ministry. And if I am honest, I was also surprised because these are topics I have never heard discussed so openly, extensively and comprehensively within a church setting.

And for sure, I honestly appreciate conversations that are spoken about vulnerably and truthfully especially on hard issues — whatever they may be— without pretending as though they do not exist, they are taboo, or they might offend some people.

As I share the links below, I recommend that each series be listened to with its unpacked version— respectively.

Tim unpacks each one of them with his lovely wife. (Yes! To the girl child— we are a lovely bunch indeed– no shade to the boy child though.)

Anyway, these messages delve into issues zeroing in on sex, sexuality, divorce and marriage; which in these present times are subjects that are critical, persistent, real, and exigent. I found them to be discussed honestly, authentically, biblically and in much love and truth. They are true marriage savers if people really pay attention to them carefully with hearts open to God’s leading.

The series could save somebody years of heartaches, carousels around the same besetting issues in marriage and even relationships, marriage counseling as well as the threat of divorce.

I am not married myself and I thought they were a great asset to have before I even contemplate the thought of marriage. Also, I thought they were a solid cheat-code for single people!

I know I have already stressed that they are amazing….but just to emphasize also, they are nothing about condemnation, sexuality bashing, or forceful submission. They are worth your time for sure!

Enough of the praise. Lol!

And may God walk you through your marriages, singlehoodness, divorce or separation as you all surrender all the murky and broken aspects of your lives to Him for Him to redeem, renew, and transform.

Ezekiel 37:3-6: And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.” Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Okay… Let’s just be honest, whenever most people hear anything about religion, their first reaction and instinct is probably to cringe or brush off the whole matter entirely.

Why? Most likely because it is a subject that is associated with extreme cases of fanaticism, it brings about a lot of conflicts and controversies, and even offends easily.

Religion is famously known for: manipulation, stagnation, repression, ignorance, bigotry and is too often a threat to liberty. And rightly so. I do agree. With that said, I recommend you to read two of my posts as well as encourage you to do a personal, extensive, and honest research on your own regarding this matter. Why?

As intellectuals (critical thinkers), I believe we owe it to ourselves to interrogate, examine, and ask hard questions regarding matters touching on faith rather than choosing to ignore them or even worse— follow blind faith. Click here for the first post.

Who speaks the truth with regards to a genuine, sincere and true relationship with God? Is it Buddha? Mohammed? Jesus? Zoroaster? Confucius? Joseph Smith? Guru Nanak? Krishna? Among others? Find out on this second post:

Why Jesus Stands Out

My heart overflows with a goodly matter; I speak the things which I have made touching the king: My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. Psalms 45:1
