I know most people have ever experienced this feeling of guilt and condmemnation for doing something wrong.
Somebody would ask me, “well, something wrong is broad, and what exactly would you term as wrong anyway?” I would say, if you feel guilty after an action or an utterance then that is your conscious beckoning you that you could have been better or acted different.
I remember once talking to a friend of mine who clarified a question that I had been asking God about the people who die(d) without hearing the gospel and the salvation of Christ to the world. He told me gently, there is a verse that says,
“This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” ~Hebrews 10:16
According to his interpretation, whether people have heard the message of salvation of not. God has already placed His laws in their hearts, that whosoever sins may be convicted whenever s/he does something that causes unsettledness in their conscience.
See this! An interesting verse follows.
Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water~ Hebrews 10:22
I have been struggling lately with self control and if I am honest I did not want to admit it because I thought I could manage it on my own.
By this I mean, doing things without thinking them through thoroughly; so the Holy Spirit has been convicting me about it and I decided I do not want to be a daughter who turns away God’s guidance and correction especially knowing the work He has done in my life up until now.
So why would I be hard-headed and stubborn to listen to Him? Well, because of guilt, shame and condemnation.
At times we feel unworthy to go back to God and ask for forgiveness because we keep messing up on things He is teaching and instructing us. As a result, we feel guilt, which births shame then leads to condemnation and eventually to sin. This is the unfortunate cycle.
That is why it is important for me to share my struggles so that I may also recognize that I still have a long way to go with my journey to being who God created me to be. Fighting guilt, shame and condemnation has got to be one of the biggest struggles most Christians face. However, that is why we have the Holy Spirit and that is the same reason why I said the Holy Spirit convicted me; not
condemned me so that I may improve on that area.
Now, the devil will be in your ear like he was in mine telling me, that I am really messing this up and I should quit once and for all; but right there and then we must make a conscious effort to remind him! If God did not love me he wouldn’t bother correcting me.
Therefore, this is a shout out to all people who are struggling with guilt, shame and condemnation; to encourage them and remind them to focus on what is important. That is, God’s end result, to sharpen us for the world and mould us more and more into His image, that we may be set apart in the world and stand firm on His word. Trusting God that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. ~2Cornth 10:4
Be firm with yourself and be gentle with others. Be unwavering in dividing the word of truth with own conduct and to men that your confession may bear fruit. ~ Wanjiku Mwangi
